Around 90 riders lined up over three races last Sunday at the North Island XCO Championships. The trails were dry and the dust well, dusty!  A new rock garden on Karearea and the Rambo rollovers challenged the riders, as did the steeps of Checkpoint Charlie. Local rider Josie Wilcox took out the women’s U23/Elite race while Sam Shaw (Rotorua) did the same in the men’s category on the back of a good showing at the Gravity 2W Enduro a day earlier!  Some of the quickest lap times were posted by the U17 men’s riders, where Ethan Rose pipped Manawatu’s Adam Francis (though Adam took the jersey for the fastest North Island rider). Other notable results for local riders included:
Caleb Bottcher – 3rd in men’s U19
Shanan Whitlock – 1st in Masters 1 men (on a single-speed)
Joe Skerman – 1st in Masters 2 men
Simon McDermott – 1st in Senior men
