CBS Winter Series kicks off on 16 June at Araheke MTB Trails, Whanganui.

If you haven't been before, here are some handy bits of info.

First, please don't say that you're not a serious racer. There will always be competition for the top spots, but the emphasis is on fun.

Second, please don't say you're too old or your kids are too young.

There are age groups for you if you were born before 1965 or after 2014 (and the years in between). For those just staring out (our wee mites!) there's a group for them.

Start time for Juniors, U11 and U13 is at 1230. Juniors/Mites will ride for 20 minutes; U11 and U13 will ride for 30 minutes.

Start time for U15 and older is 130. Starts will be in waves.

Depending on your age and gender, you will ride between three and six laps on the long course. The Open Rec group will do three laps on the short course.

Regardless of age or gender, if you have an e-bike or a single speed, you will do six laps on the long course.

Do good. Most of the heavy lifting has been done but we still need two or three volunteers for each Winter Series race to make things tick. Most volunteer positions are before or after the races, so you can still ride. And get this – you don’t need to volunteer for the full series - just one race would be great. Just to be a bit encouraging, every rider in the series is expected to help out with at least one race. Race set-up, marshalling, course-marking, Tail End Charlie and helping to pack up at the end of the race are all tasks volunteers we need help with. You can even have a rep do the task for you – sounds good to us! Contact [email protected] Most volunteer positions are before or after the races, so you can still ride.
