Heading our way: rider skills training, the Dirt Divas XC relay, First Aid training, and better weather. Summer is coming!

Event Updates

Well, unfortunately we didn’t get to have either final Winter Series event or the Sizzler this year. However – New Zealand continues to keep us relatively safe, and for that we can all be grateful. Next year will hopefully be a big improvement. In the meantime, some very exciting new things are on the calendar.

Rider Skills Development Training

Our rider skills development sessions are due to start again on Thursday evenings from October 15th at Paneiri and Arapuke Parks and will run for 7 weeks. Paneiri under 8 years will start at 5 pm and others at 6 pm. Arapuke will start at 6 pm (ignore the FB event times you see above; they’re required to list the event).

So – if you or your children want some instruction from experienced volunteers, then look out for a registration form soon. Having good skills will help you have fun and be safe on your bike. And this year, Ben Somerton is back to run a competition based group from Paneiri.

We do ask that the young ones at least have a bike with brakes, and ideally gears.

Reminder – First Aid Training For Mountain Biking

The Club will run a MTB-specific first aid course in Palmerston North on Saturday October 31 (all day). It will be part subsidised by the Club, so it will only cost participants $90 (provided you’re a club member).

Sign up now to secure your place:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lgkCt9qonJq3BRB26SD9sjNvOGWyD5mGddlhqU9rzNQ/edit?usp=sharing

Participants will be issued with a certificate after the course, and NZQA unit standards will be offered if people require them. There is an additional cost for these units of $25+gst. These can be arranged directly with Alana Mead ( [email protected]).

The unit descriptors are:

Unit 6401 – Provide first aid, Level 2, Credits: 1
Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to provide first aid.

Unit 6402 – Provide basic life support, Level 1, Credits: 1
Purpose: People credited with this unit standard are able to provide basic life support.

Frocks on Shocks – UPDATE

To all the ladies,
So far, we haven’t had many riders register for this women’s only cross-country relay event, coming up this Sunday (the 27th).

We will have to make a final decision about going ahead this Thursday. So, if you’re planning to register and haven’t – now’s the time. If you might come and were planning to register on the day, please flick me a quick email to let me know at [email protected]

Thanks, Ngaio (Manawatū Dirt Divas)
