DESCRIPTION:Thursday 15 January Members-only Club Shuttles\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCalling all intermediate and secondary school riders! \n\n\n\nThe Schools MTB Fest is your chance to ride\, race and hang out with other students who love mountain biking. \n\n\n\nOver two action-packed days you can test yourself in cross-country (XCO)\, enduro (END) and downhill (DH) on a huge range of purpose-built mountain bike trails. Whether you’re chasing a podium spot or just keen to ride with your mates\, it’s all about good trails\, good vibes and great racing. \n\n\n\nMINIMUM and MAXIMUM AGES \n\n\n\n\nThe minimum age a rider shall be is 11 in the year of the race (age is calculated as at 31 December in the year of the race) and enrolled in Year 7.\n\n\n\n\n\nIf a rider who does not meet this requirement wishes to compete they MUST first contact the organisers prior to entering the event. The event organiser will consider evidence provided to support the riders ability to complete the event and may impose additional support requirements\, such as having an adult accompany the rider. Registration prices are higher on the day!\n\n\n\nRiders must be currently enrolled at and attending an intermediate or secondary school during a particular event.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMMBC accepts applications from home-schooled students to participate in this event if they meet the School Sports New Zealand eligibility regulations\, including providing evidence of a current MoE approval.\n\n\n\nEntries are welcomed from individuals and schools nationwide.\n\n\n\nTrails and distances may change before the event. You will need to reserve a space. \n\n\n\n5pm – Online registration closes.\n\n\n\n\nSaturday 18 April\n\n\n\n\n8–9 am – XCO Registration opens \n\n\n\n9:00 am – Compulsory XCO race briefing – LONG and SHORT course\n\n\n\n9:30 am – XCO race start – LONG and SHORT course. (Cut off 11am)\n\n\n\n11:30 am – XCO Prize giving\n\n\n\n11:30 am -12:15 pm –  Enduro registration open \n\n\n\n12:15 pm – Compulsory Enduro briefing (all riders/all age groups)\n\n\n\n12:30 pm – Enduro race start\n\n\n\n3:30 pm – Enduro race ends\n\n\n\n4 pm – Enduro prize giving (earlier if possible)\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday 19 April\n\n\n\n\n8–8:30 am – DH Registration open  (at container hub HQ)\n\n\n\n8:45 am – Compulsory DH race briefing for all age groups(at container hub)\n\n\n\n9–11:30 am – DH practice. Untimed transitions to the start of the next stage must be unassisted\, i.e. NO SHUTTLING.\n\n\n\nEasy or Hard? Please select when you enter. You can change on the day.\n\n\n\nSeeding: Riders will need to self-seed within their age/gender groups.\n\n\n\nRiders will be released from the start of each stage at 30-second intervals.\n\n\n\nCourses: Easy (4 stages)\, Hard (5 stages)\n\n\n\nAge Groups: (ages are as of 31st December 2026) U13\, U14\, U15\, U16\, U17 and U20\n\n\n\nCategories: Girls\, Boys.\n\n\n\nCourse and uphill routes: The trails for the Enduro stages are described in the following map sections. Riders will need to ride up the MTB trail network to get to the start points. The shuttle may be operating for other park users. As such\, the shuttle road will not be closed for the event.\n\n\n\nTo avoid issues with timing\, the course will remain closed until riders have completed their race.\n\n\n\nThere will be no re-runs except under exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the Race Director. Exceptional circumstances may be a rider unable to complete a stage due to a medical emergency or a rider helping an injured rider. A starting date platform will be near the container hub between upper and lower  Foo Fighter. \n\n\n\nRiders can choose which course they want to run on the day.\n\n\n\nThe time allocation for both the ‘seeding run’ and ‘race run’ allows 150 riders to be run at 30-second intervals\, with a 15-minute contingency for injuries\, sweeping the course\, and resetting between runs.\n\n\n\nAfter runs\, riders will be shuttled back to the container hub at the top of the park.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe following courses are from 2025. Items of note include: \n\n\n\n\n\nXC\n\n\n\nMandatory\n\n\n\nA helmet that satisfies current New Zealand or equivalent international standards is compulsory. \n\n\n\nHighly recommended\n\n\n\nSunglasses or protective eyewear. \n\n\n\nFull-finger gloves. \n\n\n\n\n\nEnduro\n\n\n\nMandatory\n\n\n\nA full-face helmet that satisfies current New Zealand or equivalent international standards is compulsory. ‘Enduro Style’ two-piece helmets with removable chin-bar are permitted. Approved Safety Certification standards are ASTM-F1952 (ASTM for DH)\, UN/ECE Reg No. 22\, AS 1698\, NZ5430\, British Standard BS 6658\, or Japanese Standard T8133. \n\n\n\nHighly recommended\n\n\n\nElbows/forearm protection. \n\n\n\nKnee/shin protection \n\n\n\nShoulder/spinal/neck protection. \n\n\n\nFull-finger gloves. \n\n\n\nProtective eyewear. \n\n\n\n\n\nDownhill\n\n\n\nJunior – (includes U13\, U14\, U15\, U16\, U17) \n\n\n\nMandatory\n\n\n\nFull-face helmet—A helmet with chin bar and meeting Safety Certification as per Enduro above.  \n\n\n\nIf you are unsure whether your particular helmet meets the required standard\, please consult the information provided by your helmet manufacturer. \n\n\n\nNeck brace – Leatt (leatt.com) or similar to work with the Full Face Helmet. It is compulsory to wear either a neck brace or spinal protection and it is highly recommended to wear both. \n\n\n\nElbows/forearm protection – Regardless of the length of the shirt\, elbow/forearm protection with the following properties: \n\n\n\n\nSelf-fastening does not require auxiliary fastening devices to secure to the body.\n\n\n\nElbow protectors can be stand-alone or part of a protective suit\, such as a full-body\, half-body\, or vest.\n\n\n\nCan be elbow-only or combined elbow/forearm protection.\n\n\n\n\nKnee/shin protection – regardless of the length of shorts/pants\, knee/shin protection with the following properties: \n\n\n\n\nSelf-fastening does not require auxiliary fastening devices to secure to the body.\n\n\n\nCan be one-piece knee/shin protectors or separate knee and shin padding.\n\n\n\n\nHighly recommended\n\n\n\nSpinal protection: \n\n\n\n\nSelf-fastening does not require auxiliary fastening devices to secure to the body.\n\n\n\nCover full length of back (spine) from between shoulder blades to tailbone.\n\n\n\nCan be fully\, partially or non-articulated in design.\n\n\n\nThey can be standalone back protectors or part of a protective suit\, such as a full-body\, half-body\, or vest.\n\n\n\nIt is compulsory to wear either a neck brace or spinal protection and it is highly recommended to wear both.\n\n\n\n\nMotocross-style “roost guards” are NOT PERMITTED unless they have a specific back protector\, not just a rear roost deflector. \n\n\n\nShoulder protection: \n\n\n\n\nSelf-fastening does not require auxiliary fastening devices to secure to the body.\n\n\n\nOuter shells should be constructed of a solid material e.g. Hard Shell Plastic.\n\n\n\nCan be standalone shoulder protectors or part of a protective suit e.g. full body\, half body or vest.\n\n\n\n\nHand protection \n\n\n\nFull-fingered gloves are highly recommended.  \n\n\n\nDownhill\n\n\n\nSeniors – U20  \n\n\n\nThe regulations for U20 vary slightly to the Junior grade. Please refer to the MTBNZ Technical Regulations for full details.
