SUMMARY:iBike4Kids
DESCRIPTION:7 SeptemberVictoria Esplanade\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClub Champs\n\n\n\n\n\n\niBike4Kids is our biggest day for our littlest riders. Held at the beginning of September in the Victoria Esplanade\, it’s a fun day out where kids can ride and enjoy their bikes on dirt (and sometimes muddy!) trails. \n\n\n\niBike4Kids is not a race. It is a fun family event where there are no prizes for winning. Everyone who takes part gets a medal\, a bunch of swag just for entering and the chance to win cool prizes like mountain bikes\, helmets and other great stuff. You must be at the major spot prize draw to claim your prize. There are also heaps of minor spot prizes that you may be lucky enough to be given at registration. \n\n\n\nParticipants can choose between short\, medium\, and long courses and test their talents on a skills course. There is also a ‘balance bike section’ for those under five who ride without pedals or have training wheels. \n\n\n\n\nFEEDBACK\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThings you need to know\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event is open to preschool\, primary and intermediate-aged kids. \n\n\n\nThe only way to enter the event is online. Just click on the button below. There are limited spaces\, so get in early! Entries close at 5 pm\, 6 September.\n\n\n\nEntry fees are $20 per child and $10 for the balance bike kids.\n\n\n\nCool event T-shirts are available for $25 each. Order these when you enter\, and you’ll get them on the event day. The cut-off date for T-shirt orders is 8am on 25 August. This is to ensure T-shirts can be printed and ready for the event.\n\n\n\nPhotos will be taken at the event\, published on social media\, and used to publicise this and future events. The event is open to the public\, and organisers cannot control who publishes photos. Entry into the event implies acceptance of these conditions. \n\n\n\nRiders with training wheels or on balance bikes can only enter the balance bike course. Children who need a mum or dad to help them must ride the short course. \n\n\n\nGeared bikes are not essential. BMX-style bikes are fine\, but bikes with fat tyres and gears are best. Participants must ensure their bikes are safe before entering the event.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event will run whether it is wet or fine. \n\n\n\nOn event day\, you must go to registration to pick up your event pack. You may even get a spot prize! \n\n\n\nRegistration opens at 8:15 am\n\n\n\n9:00 – Long course9:55 – Medium course11:00 – Balance bike course11:15 – Short course\n\n\n\nEvent start times09:15 – Long course10:10 – Medium course (in two waves)11:15 – Balance bike course11:30 – Short course\n\n\n\nThere will be a briefing just before each category starts. EVERYONE must attend\, so make sure you are there and listening hard!\n\n\n\nParticipants must ensure their bikes are safe before entering the event. We recommend you have your bike checked at your local bike shop\, enlist the help of a friend or\, if you have the skills\, make sure everything is in safe working order.\n\n\n\nIf you have difficulty with your entry or need a refund\, please email ibike4kids@mmbc.co.nz.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nENTRIES NOW CLOSED\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCheck out our cool iBike4Kids t-shirts!\n\n\n\n\nT-shirts must be pre-ordered to allow time for printing. Sales close at 8am on Monday 25 August to allow time for printing. When the promoter struggled to run the event in 2012\, MMBC took over\, and iBike4Kids was born.   \n\n\n\nThe initial goal was to run an event with half the entry fee and double the prizes. That’s the model we continue to use. In 2025\, we are forced to increase the entry fee to $20 but still just $10 for Balance Bikes. This is the first increase since 2013\, and there are still two major spot prizes for mountain bikes and numerous smaller prizes. With the help of our sponsors\, we aim to give back the entry fees in medals and prizes. \n\n\n\nProfits from the event are invested in the MMBC skills development programme or public access trails. iBike4Kids participants are encouraged to sign up for MMBC’s skills development sessions\, which are run during term 4 at Hardie Street Reserve. \n\n\n\n\nEvent Rules\n\n\n\n\nAs always\, there must be a few rules to make the event run smoothly and safely!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSafety\n\n\n\n\nAll riders must wear a helmet and closed-toe shoes. \n\n\n\nWe recommend that riders wear gloves.\n\n\n\nParticipants must ensure their bikes are safe before entering the event. If in doubt\, check your bike at a bike shop. Check the ends of the handlebars; if there is a hole\, plug it up. Bike shops have plugs. A mechanic will be on hand for emergency repairs but will not do safety checks.\n\n\n\nParticipants must listen to and obey instructions from marshals and event organisers.\n\n\n\nThere will be first aid on-site.\n\n\n\nThe course is open to the public at all times.\n\n\n\nMarshals will be stationed around the course to assist riders and control pedestrians.\n\n\n\nThere will be lead and tail riders for each group.\n\n\n\nSpectators must stay behind the tape/barriers in the start/finish areas.\n\n\n\nEvent organisers reserve the right to change the course for safety reasons.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccompanying riders\n\n\n\n\nAll accompanying riders must wear helmets.\n\n\n\nAll balance bike riders must be accompanied by someone over 10 years old who has been walking or running for over 10 years.\n\n\n\nChildren under 6 must be accompanied by a person over 10 who is walking\, running\, or biking in SHORT COURSE ONLY and must start at the back of the start wave.\n\n\n\nYou may only accompany riders on the short and balance bike courses. No accompanying riders are permitted on the medium or long courses.\n\n\n\nThose on trailer bikes must start at the back of the short course only.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease Take Note\nThe club event manager’s decision is final for any disputes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourses\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease carefully choose the course for your child. It is best for everyone if everyone is riding a course that is within their skill and fitness levels. We will wait a reasonable length of time for everyone to finish\, but we will close the courses off in a time that will allow us to start the next wave on time. \n\n\n\nWhen choosing the course\, consider how long it will take your child to ride\, approximately 3km. Then use the following as a guide: riders on the Long Course should be able to ride 3km in under 15mins; those on the Medium Course should be able to ride 3km in under 25mins; and those on the Short Course will have at least 35mins. \n\n\n\nAll riders complete the same course with a different number of laps for each grade. \n\n\n\nIf you have a question about what grade to enter your child\, please email ibike4kids@mmbc.co.nz or ring Bill on 027 473 1311 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShort\n\n\n\nThis course is about 2.8km and is recommended for 5-6 year olds. It is mostly flat\, with no obstacles and one short downhill section. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMedium\n\n\n\nThe medium course is two laps of the short course (about 5.6km). Recommended for beginners and 7-year-olds. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLong\n\n\n\nThe long course is three laps of the short course (about 8.4km). Recommended for competent riders and those 8 years and older. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBalance bike\n\n\n\nFlat\, no obstacles but with interesting terrain. This course is approximately 0.8km long and is open only for under 5-year-olds on balance bikes (bikes without pedals) or on bikes with 16-inch wheels with or without trainer wheels. Riders with a disability are welcome to try this course or a longer course if they are able. \n\n\n\nNote: We will ask those not meeting the criteria to wait and participate in the short course. We encourage all pedal bikers\, even those under 5\, to do the short course\, including those with trainer wheels. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSkills course\n\n\n\nThe Skills Course will include obstacles to ride over or around that will test riding skills. There will always be an easy way around the trickier things. \n\n\n\nMake sure you check it out. There will be adults on hand to help out! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Map\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollow iBikes4Kids on its very own Facebook & Instagram pages\n\n\n\nFacebook\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\nContactBill Russell027 473 1311ibike4kids@mmbc.co.nz
